Artists’ queries

In the first part of the competition period, participating artists may e-mail queries to the jury at this address: concerthall@koro.no.
The jury will deal with the queries on a rolling basis. All queries and their responses will be published here in English as soon as possible. The final deadline for artists to submit queries is 1st October 2010. ________________________________________________________________________________

Q Regarding the final look and use of the Concert Hall façade; I see on your presentation a big projection on the eastern façade. I would like to know when it is planned to have projections on that façade, often, most of the evenings or just for special occasions?
A Regarding the façade: We do not know the extent of the projection on the façade. That is up to the users of the hall.

Q The deadline is October 15th. Would it be ok if I come to Stavanger on the oktober 15th and arrange with my material?
A That is ok.

Q Where can I find the A-cad drawings and the pdf´s?
A

You can find them  in FTP site in Windows Explorer   with address in Internet Explorer:  ftp://213.145.165.91/
Log in to view FTP site:

Username:  Bgomedplan
Password:  130.0277
Then click  Page, and then click  Open FTP Site in Windows Explorer

Click folder  LYSPROSJEKT I FOAJE F then three under folders will appear:
100625_underlag lyskunst i foaje
100625_underlag lyskunst i foaje1
100625_underlag lyskunst i foaje2

Open them and copy / paste the files in your projectfolder.

Q Could we get access to the names of the contractors of the Concert Hall, the ones dealing with installing (electricity and hanging)?

A The contractors should not be involved at this stage. Prices and conditions for different kinds of mounting should be consulted elsewhere in the Norwegian market.

Q Should we also cover the cost of electricity pulled to the spot in the ceiling where we connect our work?
A You will not pay for this cost.

Q The deadline is October 15th. Would it be ok to come to Stavanger on the 14th or 15th and arrange the material?
A You could come both days, before 15 o'clock, and mount your model if you want. The rest of the material will have to be displayed by the jury right before the jury starts working.
If you do come, please give instructions as to how to dismount and return the model, if you want us to return it.

Q Will the art object need to be fire-rated, and if so, what is the needed fire rating for materials, etc?
A Surfaces should be inflammable B-s1,d0 (In1) Fixings of objects should be fire resistant for 60 min. R60/A2-s1, d0 (A60)
Not fall down on people when they are escaping the building during fire, or fall dawn on the fire men when they come to put out a fire. The area is fully sprinkled.

Q What is the minimum distance between the balcony railing and the art object?
A The art objects should not be so close as to invite touching, maybe one ore one and a half meter.

Q What is the minimum height clearance between the ground floor and the lowest point of the art object?
A Minimum height clearance must be 3,5 meters above ground floor.

Q Can the ceiling panels be perforated or modified to accommodate the connections between the structural beams and the object? Is there a detail already determined for this? If so, can this be provided to us?
A Yes, the ceiling panels can be perforated or adjusted. We don’t have any specific detail yet, but the principle is that secondary beams can span from girder to girder in the space above the mesh ceiling panels to provide bearing points at any position desired.

Q Are the foyer/lobby lights dimmable? If so then, are there pre-programmed light settings designed for the foyer/lobby, and what is the light quality of each setting?
A All light in the foyer is dimmable , except from lights for cleaning.

Q If the foyer/lobby lighting is dimmable, is it set and controllable by specific zones? Would it be possible to indicate this on a Reflect Ceiling Plan?
A See PDF of drawings from the lighting designer.

Q Are there specific seasons for types of performances (Ballet Season, Opera Season, Chamber Music Season, etc.)? If so, when are they? Are there weeks, months when the theater will not be in operation? If so, when?
A Summer is traditionally low season, but this may change with the new hall. Summer is also the time of light nights, it doesn’t really become dark at all during June till mid-July

Q What time of day will performances begin? Will there also be matinees?
A Typically 7, 7:30, 8, pm. Yes, there will be matinees as well, and strong ambitions to use the hall in daytime for visiting groups of retires, kindergartens, school classes etc. Then there may be informal concerts/performances in the foyer as well.

Q How late will the cafe/bar likely be open?
A This is not decided, but typically 11-12pm weekdays, and perhaps 2am Friday/Saturday.

Q Will there be times when there will be a performance occurring in both theaters at the same time? How often can this be expected to occur?
A The hall is planned to be able to have two arrangements at the same time. How often is impossible to say, depending on the success of the hall as well as the need in the business community of Stavanger, which can be crucial for economy.

Q Would it be possible to apply a graphic pattern, a paint treatment, or a light 'wash' along the west or north wall of the central interior space? If so, would it be possible to send wall section drawings of those two walls?
A The wall to the west is the wall of the multipurpose hall. This wall will be covered in dark perforated (square holes 1x1 cm2) stainless steel cladding. The wall to the north is the red glass concrete box . Neither of these walls can be anything else.
The only possibility is the pattern created by the perforated holes on the multipurpose hall. The stainless steel cladding is perforated for acoustic and ventilation purposes. See PDF; the elevation of the multipurpose hall.

Q Could the text in the presentation be in Swedish?
A Yes, absolutely, Swedish or English.

Q We are arriving 13 October and would need a table to mount our model. Would that be OK?
A The jury will start working after 15 October. Your entries will have to be locked away until the jury has finished its work. You can assemble your model at a table in the store room. The jury will put all submissions on display before the evaluation take place.

Q If part of the art work is made in another country, should the cost of custom fees, export documents, import documents and/or WAT be included in the budget?
A There is no duty on imports of art when in ownership of the Norwegian state.

Regarding competition proposals, these are to be returned. To avoid customs you may fill out an ATA carnet (a document confirming that the goods will be returned, and not left in Norway), or state a low value on the parcel (below the value for customs).

It is also recommended that the artist makes a personal statement (in English) which state that he or she is the art works creator and owner.

Q Do you have a dwg or pdf plan drawing (even if it is preliminary) of the Acconci plaza design?
A There will be no Acconci project in the amphi theatre as the project – unfortunately – has been terminated.

Q

Would it be possible for someone there to assemble one part of the model? It is a VERY easy step and would not require any gluing or other form of skilled assembly.

A

This is no problem! Just make a simple description to how you want it done.

Q Would it be possible to send exterior elevations of the south and east facades?
A See PDF
