Svalbard Globale Frøhvelv er et sikkerhetshvelv, sprengt inn i fjellet, som skal romme inntil 4,5 millioner forskjellige typer matfrø fra hele verden. Med Dyveke Sannes kunstprosjekt synliggjøres hvelvet på avstand både i dagslys og i mørke. Volumene i byggets tak og øvre fasadefront er fylt med trekanter av høyreflekterende, syrefast stål i forskjellige størrelser. Sammen med andre lysbrytende elementer som dichroisk speilglass og prismer, kaster disse omgivelsene og lyset tilbake i alle retninger. Bygget vil reflektere sollys og lys, etter årstid og tid på døgnet. I mørketiden vil andre lyskilder overta. Lyset utgjør en komplementær størrelse til det mørke som er gravd ut i permafrosten innenfor og vil være med å signalisere frøhvelvets posisjon til enhver tid. Stedet er ikke tilgjengelig for allmennheten, og frøhvelvets indre er beskyttet mot innsyn. Likevel reflekterer innholdet bestemte betydninger og en kompleksitet som rammer oss. Fra det øyeblikket vi blir klar over dets eksistens blir vi også minnet om vår egen posisjon i helheten og jordas tilstand. Frøene forplikter for en framtid. De er kopier til et mangfold som krever en syklisk repetisjon i handling framfor en stadig tro på den utpekte originalen og det lineære framskrittet.

Svalbard Global Seed Vault is a security vault mined into the mountain designed to store up to 4.5 million different types of food seeds from all over the world. Through Dyveke Sanne's art project, the vault is made visible from afar by day and night. The volumes on the building's roof and façade are filled with triangles made of highly reflective, acid-proof steel in various sizes. In combination with other light-refracting elements, such as dichroic mirrors and prisms, the triangles reflect their surroundings and the ambient light conditions, reverberating the light in all directions. The building thus mirrors sun and light, according to the season and time of day. During the polar nights, other light sources take over. Signaling the position of the seed vault at all times, the light becomes a complimentary opposite to the dark cave mined into the permafrost of the mountain. The vault is not accessible to the general public, and the depths of the seed vault are out of sight. Yet, its contents reflect a meaning and a complexity that affects us. From the moment we become aware of its existence, we are reminded of our own position in a global perspective and the condition of our planet. The seeds carry an obligation to the future. They are copies for a diverse landscape that demands cyclical repetition of actions, rather than continued faith in the designated original and linear progression
