Olafur Eliassons kunstverk ved Svalbard Forskningspark tar utgangspunkt i naturforholdene i det arktiske området. Det lysbaserte verket er integrert i byggets vindusflater, og bærer tydelig signatur av hans sentrale kunstneriske motiv; forholdet mellom lyset slik vi oppfatter det og det reelle lyset. Med bygget som instrument og vindusfasaden som linse, kan verket betraktes som en del av arkitekturen. Det kan også assosieres med naturfenomener som nordlys og regnbue.

Olafur Eliasson’s artwork at the Svalbard Science Center is inspired by the natural conditions prevailing in this Arctic region. His light-based work is integrated into the window panes of the building, and carries the distinctive signature of Eliasson’s central artistic motif, i.e. the relationship between actual light and our perception of it. Using the building as its instrument and the window surface as its lens, the piece can be seen as part of the architecture. It may also evoke natural phenomena such as Northern lights and rainbows.
