Det ærverdige jugendbygget i E.C.Dahlsgate, som i dag huser Fylkesmannen i Sør-Trøndelag, fungerte frem til 1984 som fødeklinikk for Trondheim. Hanne Lydia Opøien Kristoffersen har valgt å utføre en monumental vegginstallasjon på trappeløpets fondvegg. Forutfor sitt arbeid har hun gjort grundig research av stiftelsens historie, og arkivert fotomateriale av scener og personer fra fødeklinikkens hverdag utgjør motivkretsen i de 16 tegninger: gravide, fødende kvinner, nyfødte, pleiebarn, sykepleiere, kuvøser og leger. Tegningene er utført med fargeblyant på svart papir, og tar opp fargeelementer fra rommets jugenddekorasjon. Motivene er gjengitt i en figurativ og fortellende stil. Bildenes dramatiske og autoritære ”aura” gir en anelse av hvordan den fødende kan tenkes ha opplevd møtet med stiftelsen.  

The venerable Art Nouveau building in E.C. Dahlsgate, which currently houses the Office of the County Governor of Sør-Trøndelag, previously served as Trondheim’s maternity clinic until 1984. Hanne Lydia Opøien Kristoffersen opted to create a monumental installation on the stairwell’s central wall. Prior to commencing her work, she conducted thorough research on the history of the institution. Archived photographic documentation of scenarios and people from the everyday life of the clinic constitutes the subject matter of her 16 drawings: pregnant women, birthing mothers, newborn babies, incubators and physicians. The drawings are executed in colored pencil on black paper and echo some of the colors of the room’s Art Nouveau décor. The motifs are rendered in a figurative and narrative style. The pictures’ dramatic and authoritarian “aura” hints at how women giving birth may have experienced the encounter with the institution.
