Arkitektenes overordnede idé for renoveringen av UMB, var å åpne opp bygningsmassen for å gi rom for lys og luft. Kunstutvalget valgte å jobbe videre med dette aspektet og en ny lysslisse, samt to innvendige lysgårder, ble derfor valgt som åsted for kunstprosjektene. Utvalget søkte etter kunstnere som arbeidet utfordrende med lys og rom, og hvis arbeider kunne forsterke effekten av disse arkitektoniske grepene. Resultatet ble tre verk som alle har lysets virkninger som utgangspunkt, og som alle karakteriseres ved at de stadig er i forandring. Michael O’Donnell står bak det sirkulære ”lysbassenget”, Dyveke Sanne har utformet en ruvende skulptural lysleder, og Carin Wessel og Erik Wessel har etablert et gridsystem av 54 lysobjekter i pleksiglass på en fem etasjer høy veggflate behandlet i gessoteknikk.   

The architects’ overarching idea for the renovation of the University of Life Sciences, was to open up the building volume to the outside to let in light and air. The arts committee chose to further develop this aspect, and so a new light slit, as well as two internal light yards, were selected as locations for the artworks. The arts committee sought artists who work with light and space in challenging ways, and whose works would heighten the effect of these architectural solutions. The result was three pieces that are all based on light effects and sharing the common characteristic of constant change. Michael O’Donnell created a circular “light pool”, Dyveke Sanne designed a massive sculptural light guide, while Carin Wessel and Erik Wessel came up with a grid system consisting of 54 light objects in plexiglas mounted on a five-story tall wall surface coated in gesso technique.
