Utvalget ønsket at kunsten skulle fungere identitetsskapende for institusjonen og brukerne. Man ønsket en gjenspeiling av institusjonens fundament og virksomhet, og definerte derfor byggenes sosiale møteplasser som arena for kunstprosjektene. Det skulle handle om identitet og trivsel; berøring gjennom et lett, og gjerne humoristisk blikk. Valget falt på kunstprosjekter som var innholdsmessig lett forståelige, og som samtidig hadde et formspråk og en karakter som talte godt både til unge og voksne.

The arts committee set out to find artwork that would have an identity-forming effect for the institution and its users. Aiming for a reflection of the juvenile home's foundation and activities, the buildings' social meeting points were designated as arenas for the art projects. The focus was to be on identity and well-being; on reaching people through a light-hearted, perhaps humorous, view of things. The final selections were thus artworks with easily comprehensible content and a visual language and style that speak to young and adults alike.
