Art projects in government-owned buildings have been KORO’s main task since it was established in 1976. In 1998 the scheme
was given higher priority, and today all government building projects automatically earmark a percentage up to 1.5 % of the
cost of building for art. The percentage depends on factors such as the type of building, the building’s accessibility, the
number of users and the extent to which it is public. The building’s significance and symbolic value are also taken into account.
The funds are managed by KORO, which is responsible for implementing the art projects.
The practical implementation of the projects is delegated to an artistic committee in which the builder, the architect and the users of the building are represented. An artistic consultant (usually an artist) engaged by KORO ensures that the project maintains a professional standard. Advisers from KORO follow up each project and support the artistic consultant and the artistic committee in their work.
