The art committee has created an overall plan for the location of visual and tactile works of art, which takes the audiences’ movements and experiences of Kilden as a performing arts centre as its starting point. At the same time, it is important to see these works of art in relation to the distinctive character of the architecture. The chosen sites for the art projects begin at the access roads leading from the city arriving at the large concrete surface that stretches from the outdoor concourse into the building. Entering the building through the undulating wall will be an experience in itself, so the entrance area will not be a site for any works of art until visitors arrive at the Upper Foyer. The smaller and more experimental performances that will take place on Stage 2 are introduced in the entrance area, and there are possibilities for works of art situated around the Rest Rooms.
SEVEN PLANNED ART PROJECTS
There are a total of seven sites for art commissions; work has already started on five projects. Three works of art for the
Access Roads are in the process of being reviewed and two limited competitions for the Concrete Floor and the Upper Foyer
have got underway after completion of the international pre-qualification stage. The committee is awaiting the outcome of
these projects, but will continue with the objectives set out in the Art Plan in relation to art commissions for the Stage
2 Foyer and the Rest Rooms.
