KORO is Norway’s largest producer of art for public spaces. The art projects span a broad range, from projects like the new
Opera House with
a number of large-scale works and international artists to smaller projects featuring a single artist.
KORO’s aim is that the works of art will actively relate to their surroundings and that the art productions will bear the
hallmark of artistic diversity and reflect current trends in contemporary art.
KORO’s art projects are implemented within the framework of four different schemes: two for government institutions, one for
public buildings owned by municipalities and counties, and one for outdoor spaces. For a fee, KORO also takes on the management
of art projects and consultancy work for government-owned companies, enterprises and foundations. KORO is focusing on increasing
its activities as a centre of expertise for semi-private and private target groups.
The art projects are spread all over the country and KORO’s working method is decentralised and democratic. The organisation
of the projects varies somewhat depending on which of the four schemes is in effect. KORO collaborates with a wide range of
actors and groups in the area of public spaces.
Every year hundreds of artists receive commissions from KORO, either as practicing artists or as artistic consultants. KORO
holds courses and seminars for the consultants, often in collaboration with educational institutions and art centres.
