PRESS RELEASE: Invitation to press showing the production steps of: SHE LIES BY MONICA BONVICINI, THE WATER SCULPTURE FOR THE NORWEGIAN NATIONAL OPERA & BALLET

KORO invites the press to view the production process of the final artwork for the Norwegian National Opera & Ballet at Bjørvika, Friday 19 February at 11.00 a.m. in Horten (bus from Oslo S at 9.30)

Public Art Norway – KORO is a specialized government body for public art and the country’s major producer of artwork. In addition to regional and municipal projects and commissions for rented government buildings and outdoor spaces, KORO currently has 65 governmental projects under production. The largest of these is for the Norwegian National Opera & Ballet, where an appointed art committee has been developing the art programme since 2002. She Lies is the final project in this programme.

KORO invites the press to view the production process of the final artwork for the Norwegian National Opera & Ballet at Bjørvika

Friday 19 February at 11.00 a.m. in Horten (bus from Oslo S at 9.30)

The opening of the Norwegian National Opera & Ballet in April 2008 effectively marked the completion of the work of the Art Committee for the New Opera House. Still to be produced at that point was the Water Project, for which Monica Bonvicini’s sculpture She Lies was announced as the competition winner in October 2007.

Bonvicini’s sculpture is an outstanding ambitious and large scale project.  She Lies is not only parked floating on the water in front of the National Opera & Ballet, the artwork is also turning on its vertical axis, moving with the current and in so doing offering a continuously different side to be viewed. The longevity of the work is very much connected with the high quality materials used to construct its parts. The firm SIAS AS in Horten is currently assembling parts of the 13 metre high steel and glass construction, which will be towed into Bjørvika later this spring.

KORO has the pleasure to invite the press to view the production process prior to completion of the work, after which it will be towed to Bjørvika. The intention is to show the production, not to visualize the finished art work.
